This distance learning exchange united three groups of students: University of the Arts photography majors, Centro Nueva Creación 5-12 year old photographers in North Philadelphia, and Mexican youth at Museo Imagina in Puebla, Mexico.
I worked with two University of the Arts students to develop an 8 lesson unit of study that was age appropriate for elementary school children. I implemented our lessons during an Art Education Residency through Arquetopia. I taught the Mexican students digital photography and bookbinding techniques that resulted in 2 autobiographical books per student.
Each Mexican student kept one copy of their book and upon returning to the United States, I brought the other copies to my students at Centro Nueva Creación to “introduce” the student partners. University of the Arts students then taught the same 8 lessons that we designed together to the students at Centro Nueva Creación. After the Centro students completed their books, we shipped one copy to their Mexican partners.
